Jenna’s Model Life

Peter’s a star

March 10, 2008 · 5 Comments

Check out this month’s Skateboard Mag to see a fantabulous double-page spread of Peter doing the same trick in the same spot on four different occasions spread over the last year we lived in Iowa City. Peter’s skate photographer friend Sam shot it and wrote the accompanying text.

I think it’s funny that Peter wears so much more clothing in Summer than in Spring.

Did everyone know Jenna’s now selling advertising space on her blog? yeah! An advertisement sized as the one above is remarkably reasonable. How much? I dunno, I don’t pay for these things (me and jenna are like this!).

Let me say, though, Jenna, that you’ve got it all wrong. Summer is the shorts, and spring is the flannel.

Also: let the record show that I’m probably the first person to make it into the skateboard mag who can’t kickflip.

Oh damn I was confoozled by the colour of the trees. The bright, young, green leaves must belong to the spring trees, thought I; those tired-looking dark green things must be summer leaves awaiting any excuse to shrivel and die.

And, for you sweetie, the public endorsement is free of charge. The first time.

I can do all those tricks. I just chose not to.

I also hope SOMEONE starts a photoshop/internet meme of Peter crashing into weird shit with his skateboard.

what’s a “meme,” Greg? The translator at Altavista.com (remember that worthless search engine?), the same one that provided me with “manicottos” and “tradurre,” reminded me that “meme,” when the first “e” wears that cute little hat, is French for “same.”

Why would you suggest I need a stunt-double or photoshop to depict me crashing into weird shit on my skateboard? All you need is me, a camera, and a skateboard! Shit, man, just this week I derailed a MUNI train (not true), nose-bonked a border collie’s head (thought about it), before backside 5-0′ing to faceplant a squad car. You ever seen Mark Gonzales skate New York in Video Days? Well, that’ll be me in a couple months, just more fucking up.

    Thanks.

    Peter darling,

A “meme” is Internet-speak for one of those things that becomes so popular it’s endlessly parodied, passed-around, altered, etc. Eventually it becomes a punchline without a set-up. Like LOLCATS or saying ‘teh internets’ or Aleksey Vayner or goatse or Rick-rolling or the Star Wars kid or the fake Chernobyl motorcycle blog or George, George, Washington or all your bases are belong to us or the boy who lip-syncs to the Numa Numa song.

Greg is suggesting we elevate you to meme status by photoshopping in shit for you to crash into (and probably posting the results on 4chan and SomethingAwful). This is a serious compliment. One day you could even go dead-tree full-circle and be the subject of an enlightening Douglas Wolk essay, which would include sentences like, “Brolsma’s video singlehandedly justifies the existence of webcams.”

    Love always,
